Teaching

Powers and Griffith teach as a team, varying their work with mini-lectures, hand-outs, discussions and Q&A, dyadic and group exercises, and live demonstrations. DVDs of client interviews are used for practice critique.

Their teaching experience includes many years of service as members of the Core Faculty of the Adler School of Professional Psychology (Chicago), and also as Visiting Lecturers at venues in the USA, Canada, Venezuela, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Greece, Israel, and Switzerland. They have taught beginning and advanced courses in Adlerian theory and practice and various special topics in academic and CE programs. [See list below.]

They have regularly taught the four-course Certificate Program in Adlerian Psychology for the Puget Sound Adlerian Society (PSAS), based in Seattle, Washington, USA, where they also conduct a quarterly Professional Development Seminar.

As "The Americas Institute of Adlerian Studies" (1982-1992) they created and directed the "AIAS Program for Professionals" in a number of locations in the United States. This was a 90-hour CE program with a distinguished Faculty, including Alexandra Adler M.D., Alfred Adler's daughter and immediate successor in neurology and psychiatry. This program, leading to the Certificate of Professional Studies in Adlerian Psychology, was a pioneer, the first Adlerian program to earn the approval of the American Psychological Association and the National Board for Certified Counselors, and was the model for other CE programs in Adlerian Psychology.

As an Affiliate Member of the North American Society of Adlerian Psychology (NASAP), Adlerian Psychology Associates may offer CE for psychologists and certified counselors with the co-sponsorship of NASAP, which maintains responsibility for the integrity of programs and content as an organization approved by the American Psychological Association and the National Board for Certified Counselors.

In addition to preparing and teaching Adlerian courses in master's level, doctoral level, and CE programs, Powers and Griffith also have special expertise in the following subjects:

  1. Life-Style (Personality) Assessment
  2. Birth Order: The Psychological Vantage Point
  3. Adler and the Psychology of Women
